Marlene & Mark – Anything Grows + Cochrane Engagement Session

“We met while working at Anything Grows, a local greenhouse in Cochrane…”

Marlene & Mark’s Cochrane AB Engagement Session

I’ve known Marlene for quite some time, although not close friends we’ve been “aware” of each other haha! I was so excited when I saw they were getting engaged and then even more excited when they asked us to be their wedding photographers. As we started to plan their engagement session we talked about going to a park in Calgary somewhere, try and get some golden hour photos until I read their “How we met” story. I knew we had to do something with Anything Grows a green house in Cochrane AB.

Here’s a bit of their story :

“Mark and I met when working at Anything Grows; a local greenhouse in Cochrane. I was home for the summer and excited to have a fun summer job.

Mark was a bit younger…. he didn’t even have his drivers licence when we met. Since I had a car and would often leave on my lunch break I started to go on lunch with Mark. Partially because he was always sooo hungry and begging for me to bring him something back and it was nice to have some company.

We would often go to the Cochrane Ranche and hangout on the grass; chatting and getting to know each other. After our first summer working together I went back to Lethbridge for school and we kept in touch via MSN chat (lol) and Facebook.

I returned for another summer and got my job back at Anything Grows, we continued to go for lunch and enjoyed working together during our second summer at Anything Grows.

I returned to Lethbridge again and came home for another summer at Anything Grows…. this time Mark was suddenly grown up!!

Together with our very good friends Tynan and Andrea (who also met, and worked at Anything Grows) we started hanging out after work! That summer was the best ever as we all lived for our evenings together and spent what felt like the whole summer together. It cemented our attraction and we have been inseparable ever since!!”

Tell us! How did he propose?

“This summer we planned a trip that would take us to Creston to visit Pat & Cec and then on to Shuswap to visit my family. Before we left Mark had asked me if I wanted to spend a day “just you and me?” I thought it would be a great idea since our vacation would be short and it would be nice to spend some time together.

Mark suggested we visit the Glass House which is a tourist attraction in Creston where we had visited on our first trip to Creston during the summer we started dating.

On Tuesday August 9th we got up and went to the gym for a quick workout and came home and had breakfast with Cecile. Mark and his Mum played a game of crib and I napped…

It was a slightly overcast day which is rare for Creston so Mark packed up some firewood so we could go to the beach and have a fire.

We headed out for the Glass House and a nice date day. We walked around the site and Mark kept taking pictures… which is somewhat out of character for him. He seemed kinda fidgety and at one point said “I need a snack, do you need a snack, I’m going to go get our snacks.” He went to the car and came back with his backpack; we had some snacks and enjoyed the view.

After our snack we decided we had explored enough and we would head to the beach for a fire. As we were walking out I hear Mark say “Heeeey…” and I turn around to see him on one knee with his hand outstretched and a sparkly ring in his fingers. He asked me to marry him and I said yes!!”

What do you guys do for fun?

Play volleyball, workout, go outside, garden, watch TV/Movie, cook together, talk!

What are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?

Seeing each other at the beginning of the ceremony! GETTING MARRRRIED and celebrating with our friends and family 🙂

Dana & Dylan Engagement Session

Engagement Love in the Park
A Fall Calgary Engagement Session

Fall is such a beautiful time to photograph couples in Calgary! The colours, the light, and just everything about these sessions make me so excited. We were thrilled to meet with Dana & Dylan last August and hear about their Carriage House Inn wedding coming up in just a few days! These two love to laugh and be goofy and are always up to try something new like dance classes (first dance hint??), cooking, or painting.

We loved that they brought their little rescue pup Frankie, who is just the sweetest little pup you’ll ever meet. We hope we’ll be seeing a bit of her on the wedding day!

We just know this day is going to be a day filled with laughter, family, friends, and love. Have a look back at their engagement session

Best Friends Summer Sessions!

Best Friend Summer Sessions #1

I have been meaning to do a session like this for AGES! I take so many photos of Toffee (pretty much everyday – See my instagram…) and I thought it was about time we celebrate our fur friends photo style!

Our mini session event is happening on Tuesday June 27th at Fish Creek Park’s Glenfield Meadows between 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

We will bring the treats for your buddy to make sure they will smile for the camera. This will be a BYOPB (Bring Your Own Poop Bag)

What the session includes
30 Minute Session
2 High Resolution Edited Images
1 – 5×7 (Obvoiusly to put on your desk!)
$125 + 25 per extra pup

(Pay by E-Transfer or we now take credit card!)

Suggested Preparation

  1. Whenever we are getting Toffee ready for a shoot we try and get him to run around for a bit first to get him a little tired so he’ll start listening to us. We strongly recommend taking your pup for a walk or play to tire them out just a little bit before your session starts!
  2. Bring Poop Bags (cause you never know…)
  3. Treats or their favourite toy! (The squeakier the better)
  4. It is important that you are well rested the day of your session. You want you to look your best, and getting enough sleep the night before is a good first step. Allow yourself extra time to perfect your wardrobe, style yourself, and travel. We recommend arriving for your session early and take the opportunity to enjoy a few moments of relaxation before we begin.
  5. It is not necessary to accessorize your session with props and toys unless it has already been discussed as an integral part of your session. We create timeless portraits that are natural, relaxed and pure, and we find that keeping themes simple allows for real moments, expressions and interactions.
  6. We recommend having your hands free throughout the session, and so we prefer to not have you carry extra clothing, a purse, drinks, or anything else. We will recommend that you leave your items at our starting location (most likely in your vehicle) and we can come back half-way through the session to change and freshen up.
  7. We encourage you to embrace whatever mood you feel during your session. Feel free to relax, laugh and have a good time. Portraits are best when you are being yourself. It’s important to remember that just because there is a camera pointing at you, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be looking at the camera. Sometimes the strongest images are created when you are interacting with one another and enjoying a moment as opposed to posing.

  8. Simplicity is always best, so when in doubt keep in mind that “less is more”.
  9. Avoid patterns and stripes, as they often will conflict with other elements in your portrait.
  10. Avoid logos, as they can be visually distracting.
  11. Neutral colors such as beige, white, black, tan and grey often photograph the best, as they complement skin tones and don’t conflict with common background elements. BUT if your wardrobe is bright and bold DON’T BE AFRAID TO WEAR THIS!
  12. Wear clothing that fits properly. A proper fit that allows you to move and feel comfortable will help you look more confident in your portrait.
  13. Always dress with full length in mind, including shoes and socks in your wardrobe consideration. Shoe styles should be simple and non distracting.
  14. If you wear glasses regularly, you should wear them for your session as we want you to look like you normally do. Don’t worry about shine or glare, as we know how to look for these things and photograph accordingly.
  15. We normally recommend wearing minimal jewellery for your portrait. Jewellery that you wear on a daily basis is fine, but we prefer to not have you accessorize and add extra jewellerly that normally wouldn’t wear. If you do wear jewellery, it should be kept simple and it’s colour should be neutral and non-distracting.
  16. Apply makeup and style your hair as you normally would. Now is not the time to try out a new haircut or a new style of make-up that you aren’t comfortable with.
  17. We recommend against going for a professional tan or intentionally tanning outdoors prior to your session. A fresh tan may look good in person but the camera is more sensitive to skin tones and your natural colour is always more flattering in photographs.
