Desiree & Jeremy Wedding

I love you. I know.

Modern + Star Wars + Navy + Glitter
August 26th, 2017

What was your most anticipated part of the day
Desiree – I was most anticipating the ceremony. I was pretty relaxed in the limo on the way to the ceremony and I knew I was ready to take the giant step in life with Jeremy. It was a bit hard leaving Jeremy the night before and knowing I wouldn’t see him again until I was walking down the aisle about to become his wife, which I think also made me anticipate that the most.
Jeremy – The ceremony. I was nervous.

Did anything unexpected happen? What was the outcome?
Desiree – The hair and makeup artists, I thought, we’re going to be doing our hair and makeup on a mobile beauty bar (a bus) and that’s not what happened. We all squeezed into our hotel room which was actually better I think because we were all together the entire time of getting ready, even though it was a bit of a snuggle.
Jeremy – Not all speeches were exactly as we had thought they might go, but you can force people what to say.

What ended up being your favourite part of the day?
Desiree- Ceremony was by far my favourite. It was so emotional and special and moments that I know I will never forget the rest of my life. Having all our guests stand and be a part of the ceremony was so special. My other favourite part was going to do a few photos with Jeremy and I. It was the only part of the day we got to be alone until we headed back to the hotel at the end of the night, and I think it was so important that we got those 20 minutes. Jeremy – Finally being married to Desiree after all the planning and stress that went into the day.

In your own words describe how you felt during the most special moments of the day. IE: Getting ready, during the ceremony, right before you said “I do”
Desiree – Getting ready: I was feeling put off, because the hair and makeup had “changed”, my hair wasn’t how it was in the trial so I was feeling off, however, my girls that I had reminded me that no one but me knew what my trail hair was, and we all got to be together so they calmed me, and the champagne helped too I’m sure. So I started to just get excited but I was also just wanted to get ready so we could go because I wanted to get married haha. The limo ride was good on the way, my bridesmaids kept asking me how I was doing if I was nervous etc and I felt great. I was happy and calm. During the ceremony – the first part of the ceremony was so emotional and amazing, when we were standing on stage though, it was really hot under the lights and it felt like our pastor was talking forever. Once our pastor came on the stage and we started the official parts of the ceremony, it suddenly didn’t feel as hot, and we read our vows and did our ring exchange and it was just a feeling I don’t think you can describe unless you’ve married your best friend. I was so excited to read our vows and make it all official. Excited I guess would be my main word. Jeremy – getting ready – Happy and excited about what was happening glad to be surrounded by my friends and family. Ceremony – Right before the ceremony I was feeling nervous and excited. Right before I do’s and stuff I was feeling nervous and sweaty and anxious for it be done because I didn’t want to feel that way anymore. I was ready to enjoy the day instead of feeling nervous.

What was your wedding inspiration?
\
Desiree & Jeremy – My favourite colour is pink, Jeremy is blue so we went for blush and navy as they look great together and so do we. Also added some gold pieces to give a bit of sparkle because I am pretty girlie and sparkles are awesome. We had some StarWars attributes because we both love Star Wars. So I guess we were our inspiration. We also just wanted everything to be simple, romantic and relaxed and everyone to have a good time and from what we hear, we succeeded.

What song did you walk down the aisle to?
Parents, Jeremy and groomsmen – Your song by Elton John, Bridesmaids – Make you feel my love by Adele and Desiree How long will I love you by Ellie Goulding

What song played during your first dance?
Danny’s song by Loggins and Mesina

How did you feel at the end of the day?
Desiree- Exhausted yet so alert and still excited. I was so tired when I tried to sleep but my brain just kept replaying the moments of the day.
Jeremy – Whirlwind of emotions

What advice would you give to future couples for their wedding?
Desiree – take your time in planning, do as much in advance as you can to eliminate stress right before and know that not every little thing will go exactly to plan, but really, you will be the only one who knows that and it will still be the best day ever.
Jeremy – When the day comes, just go with it, whatever happens, happens; there’s not much you can do about it.

What did you like most about working with us on your wedding day?
You guys are so easy going and fun loving. It was easy and fun and you guys are just so on the ball and knew what we wanted and what we didn’t want. If you hadn’t brought it up, we wouldn’t have done photos just Jeremy and I and that was one of the best parts of the day. You guys just helped to relieve stress from us and we do not know if I can say thank you enough for that. We liked how you were both involved and easy to be around. No awkward moments!

#NerdWedding Erin & Jeff

#NerdWedding Calgary
Disney + Star Wars + Wedding = Best Thing Ever
September 2nd, 2017

This wedding is every Disney Nerd’s dream come true. What I love about Erin & Jeff is that they are not afraid to be who they are and the details in their wedding day were a perfect example of that. Combing details from Disney’s Beauty & The Beast and Star Wars, sound like an odd combination? At first, I thought so too. But you need to see how perfectly they pulled it off after we ask them a few details about their wedding day!

What was your most anticipated part of the day
Jeff – The first look: seeing Erin for the first time all dressed up in her beautiful dress.
Erin – After the I dos: I couldn’t wait to just celebrate with our loved ones as husband and wife (finally!)

Did anything unexpected happen? What was the outcome?
E& J: We had planned to have a kissing game instead of our guests clinking glasses. We had a 20-sided die that if you rolled 11-20, we would kiss (critical hit!), but if you rolled 1-10, you had to kiss someone (critical miss!). Well, our emcee – Jeff’s dad Peter, decided to alter the deal. If a guest rolled 20 – THEY got to kiss one of US. If they rolled a 1 – they had to kiss Peter! One of our groomsmen, Sean, decided to gamble and found himself rolling a critical miss. Just as he went to kiss Jeff’s dad Peter on the cheek, Peter turned and kissed him square on the lips! The entire reception roared with laughter and Sean will never live down the fact that he went to first base with Jeff’s dad.

What ended up being your favourite part of the day?
Jeff: I really enjoyed playing the shoe game and seeing everyone’s reactions to our responses
Erin: The sunset photos! After most of the big stuff was already done, it was just the two of us with Kaela & Elijah, totally overwhelmed with happiness that the day had gone well and we were married!

In your own words describe how you felt during the most special moments of the day. IE: Getting ready, during the ceremony, right before you said “I do”
Jeff: Getting Ready: Excited and confident – I had a great bunch of guys with me and although this was a new experience for me, I was with familiar faces. I was confident in the choices that I had made to be here and I knew everything was going to turn out perfect as the day went on. During the Ceremony: I’m not going to lie, it was really hot. I thought it was great how our pastor incorporated Lord of the Rings into his welcome message! Right before “I do”: Excited to take the next step forward both figuratively in our relationship – and for dinner!

Erin: Getting Ready: I had the best ladies with me, both in our wedding party and our beauty team! The whole getting ready process felt exactly like it looks in the movies – being with your favourite people, feeling awesome, laughing, listening to throwback music. During the Ceremony: A little anxious! It was kind of scary to be in front of so many people for so long, but anytime I felt a little scared, I made a funny face at Jeff and he gave me his “you’re a dork” face and I felt way better. Right before “I do”: Excited that this thing was really happening! We had spent most of the afternoon together doing our photos with the bridal party, but getting ready to say those words made it feel so real.

What was your wedding inspiration?
E & J: Really just looking at our relationship and who we were – rustic chic wasn’t our thing, so we needed something different! We brainstormed the things that make us most happy and we landed on Disneyland! When we found that was just too broad of an idea – we narrowed it down to our favourite parts of Disney – Beauty and the Beast & Star Wars. We wanted the whole wedding to feel just like we do when we go to Disneyland and it just kind of came to life!

What song did you walk down the aisle to?
Erin – Tale as Old as Time, Jeff – Concerning Hobbits

What song played during your first dance?
Once Upon a Dream – Peter & Evynne Hollens

How did you feel at the end of the day?
Jeff: Sad that it was over, happy that it happened! (Erin’s aside: so cliche, Jeffery!)
Erin: TIRED. But also so so so pleased that it went well.

What advice would you give to future couples for their wedding?
Jeff: Maaaaybe consider a destination wedding – it isn’t so expensive! But, it was amazing to have so many people we loved there and you wouldn’t get that with a destination wedding.
Erin: If someone tells you that you can’t possibly make two themes work together, tell them to just watch you! Seriously, skip the perfect Pinterest wedding and make it about you.

What did you like most about working with us on your wedding day?
Jeff: Kaela & Elijah were a lot of fun! They got along so well with everyone in our wedding party and did incredible work.
Erin: Everyone felt so comfortable the whole day with Kaela & Elijah. They were good at being directive to get the right photo, but also skilled at catching candid moments that brought the day to life.

Marlene & Mark – Gold Geometric Calgary Wedding

Marlene & Mark

Calgary Wedding at Al Azhar Shriner Centre

Calgary Wedding season has slowed down a bit for K&E Imaging so now it’s time for me to catch up on posting our awesome clients on our blog! I am super stoked to share Marlene & Mark’s wedding day at the Al Azhar Shriner’s club in beautiful North Calgary. It’s such a treat when the sun is shining for such a wonderful couple. We asked them a few questions about their experience on their wedding day and what they experience with us was like!

What was your most anticipated part of the day?
Mark: Seeing Marlene in her dress for the first time.
Marlene: I was so excited to see Mark for the first time and get through the ceremony and begin the celebration! Also cake….always cake!

Did anything unexpected happen? What was the outcome?
Mark: Family that I didn’t expect to make it managed to come!
Marlene: The whole day went so smoothly and there were no disasters…. that we knew of! It was so perfect!

What ended up being your favourite part of the day?
Mark: The speeches and the dance.
Marlene: The speeches and Marks parents slide show were definite highlights. I also loved at the end of the evening being driven to our hotel by one of Mark’s good longtime friends, he made sure there was nice music playing and was so kind to give us a ride…. since we didn’t have a plan, other than calling a cab! It really topped off the night and made us feel so special! I also loved going over all the moments and memories with Mark and sharing the few pictures we snapped throughout the day. We tried to stay together so we would have all the same memories but there were a few moments we had to catch up on; it was so wonderful to hear his version of the day and relive it through the stories he had!

In your own words describe how you felt during the most special moments of the day. IE: Getting ready, during the ceremony, right before you said “I do”
Mark: Terrible amounts of anticipation during the first reveal and stressing out over my vows. After that everything was a breeze.
Marlene: I loved getting ready with my bridal party at my parents house! I made sure to wake up early and have a coffee alone on the deck before the madness began, it gave me a sense of calm and control (definitely took some deep breaths lol). It was such a special moment for me to reflect on what was to become the best day EVER! I also loved the time Mark and I spent together getting our photos taken, it was really the only time we had alone the whole day and you both (Kaela and Elijah) made us feel so comfortable that it was nice to hug and kiss and just love on each other…. even while pictures were being snapped. I felt so overwhelmed by love and support at the end of the night, the DJ played the last song twice because no one wanted to stop dancing and having fun! Our guests surrounded us and danced around us in a big circle…. it was so incredible and I have never felt so much love! That was AMAZING! The last song was Journey, Don’t Stop Believing and it was the perfect classic sing -a-long feel good song to end the night on!

What was your wedding inspiration?
Mark: I’m going to guess Pinterest…
Marlene: I wanted to keep it simple, modern and elegant and not fuss with too many decor details and knick-knacks. I wanted the day to feel warm and welcoming… and a little bit of Pin-spo.

What song did you walk down the aisle to?
All of Me – John Legend

What song played for your first dance?
Say You Wont Let Go – James Arthur

How did you feel at the end of the day?
Mark: Thankful for all the effort that our friends, family and vendors put into our day.
Marlene: So overwhelmed with love and support and so grateful to all of our family and friends for showing us such kindness and generosity! BEST DAY EVER!

What advice would you give to future couples for their wedding?
Mark: Make an effort to stay together all night. Call a cab early or make sure you have a friend with room in the backseat and a romantic playlist.
Marlene: Hire professionals. Make sure you have a few moments with your spouse alone. Take a moment to step back and just watch the party and all your loved ones having fun- its so cool to see the people you love enjoying themselves! Try and stay together so that you share all the same memories and moments!

What did you like most about working with us on your wedding day?
Mark: I really appreciated that you took time to go over the moments we thought were extra important and ensured they were captured on film. (haha film…)
Marlene: The process leading up to our day put our minds at ease that you would capture the moments we felt were most important. You spent time getting to know us and gathering information on what we wanted. You were also so kind and gracious that being in front of the camera was not awkward and we didn’t feel posed or forced to be anything other than ourselves. All the fun little catch phrases, tricks and tactics you have to get great pictures also made for a really fun time for us and the whole wedding party! Having two “shooters” is also a HUGE plus – that many more chances to capture all the fun!

Canada Day Proposal with One & Only

A One & Only Downtown Calgary Proposal

You know its going to be a good day when Sibyl from One & Only Proposals messages you and asks you to photograph one of their next proposals. She explained one of their first dates that was on a roof top and wanted to recreate that feeling in Downtown Calgary at Hotel Le Germain

Canada Day was a little bit blustery and raining but I so wanted this to happen out on the patio for Amaan & Natasha. We pushed it to the very last minute to set up the lights and the table from Orange Trunk Vintage Styling and Rentals before they arrived. Elijah and I hid behind the pillars for when Amaan would lead her out to the spot where he would ask her to be his wife! In no time they arrived, Amaan gave a beautiful heartfelt speech, got down on one knee, and she said YES!

My favourite part about photographing proposals is the pure emotion that comes out, there is nothing but that excitement happening and the world dissolves around them (coming from experience) Amaan told us he was afraid it would be awkward to have us there but he didn’t notice us snapping away at all.

We are so excited for these two and definitely hope they contact us for their wedding 😉

Kira & Brad’s Spring Engagement Session

There is nothing quite like and engagement session in the spring in Calgary. It was really a chance to get to know Kira and Brad on an even deeper level since our first consultation! One thing I can tell you is that they LOVE to laugh and are total nerds (in the greatest way, which we love) They brought their dog Finn or FN-2187 who is the most photogenic dog I’ve ever seen in my life. We talked about their first date and what they love to do together and Poke-Adventures (Pokemon Go) is a major part of their date nights since they would rather be low key than do anything extravagant on a date night. In fact their first date sounds like a perfect date night; a movie (The Avengers) and then just grabbing a case of beer and heading to the Glenmore Reservoir to chat! Simple, fun, love is where it’s at with these two!

You know I really love my job as a wedding photographer I have the opportunity to see so many loving couples and these guys seriously take the cake. They care so much for each other. I just adore the fact that Brad makes Kira’s lunch and makes sure there are extra pickles in there for her because that is her favourite snack. Brad is so grateful for Kira and how she has taken care of him and drives him around and how their love is just “fun and awesome.”

We asked them to tell us their versions of the proposal

Brad:

“I was very nervous, wasn’t sure how I was going to do it. Kira already had an idea since we had gone to look at rings so, felt like she had been expecting it for a while. I had asked her dad for permission before, that was pretty nerve wrecking. Kira ended up coming home early which put a lot of pressure on me to get things ready before she got home. I am glad she said yes! :)”

Kira:

“It was a Friday (April Fool’s Day actually…) and I hadn’t been feeling good at work so, at noon I called Brad and told him I was coming home. Had no idea what he had planned. So, I walk in the door and he’s there all dressed up with roses and I am so confused – in my head I’m like “did we have plans? did I forget?”. Then he gets down on one knee and gives me this heartfelt speech before asking me to marry him. Of course I said yes! My parents and his already knew so we gave them a call and let our siblings know as well. Then we headed to my parents house (they live 10 mins away) for champagne :)”

We can’t wait for their wedding coming up so quick at the Calgary Zoo! Let this hold you over till we post their wedding photos!

Calgary Stampede Inspiration

Who doesn’t love going to the Calgary Stampede! I am a born and raised Calgarian and I have been down to the grounds almost every year. Last year we decided to bring a few of our friends down to ride the bull and show off their Stampede duds and of course eat some mini doughnuts!

Marlene & Mark – Anything Grows + Cochrane Engagement Session

“We met while working at Anything Grows, a local greenhouse in Cochrane…”

Marlene & Mark’s Cochrane AB Engagement Session

I’ve known Marlene for quite some time, although not close friends we’ve been “aware” of each other haha! I was so excited when I saw they were getting engaged and then even more excited when they asked us to be their wedding photographers. As we started to plan their engagement session we talked about going to a park in Calgary somewhere, try and get some golden hour photos until I read their “How we met” story. I knew we had to do something with Anything Grows a green house in Cochrane AB.

Here’s a bit of their story :

“Mark and I met when working at Anything Grows; a local greenhouse in Cochrane. I was home for the summer and excited to have a fun summer job.

Mark was a bit younger…. he didn’t even have his drivers licence when we met. Since I had a car and would often leave on my lunch break I started to go on lunch with Mark. Partially because he was always sooo hungry and begging for me to bring him something back and it was nice to have some company.

We would often go to the Cochrane Ranche and hangout on the grass; chatting and getting to know each other. After our first summer working together I went back to Lethbridge for school and we kept in touch via MSN chat (lol) and Facebook.

I returned for another summer and got my job back at Anything Grows, we continued to go for lunch and enjoyed working together during our second summer at Anything Grows.

I returned to Lethbridge again and came home for another summer at Anything Grows…. this time Mark was suddenly grown up!!

Together with our very good friends Tynan and Andrea (who also met, and worked at Anything Grows) we started hanging out after work! That summer was the best ever as we all lived for our evenings together and spent what felt like the whole summer together. It cemented our attraction and we have been inseparable ever since!!”

Tell us! How did he propose?

“This summer we planned a trip that would take us to Creston to visit Pat & Cec and then on to Shuswap to visit my family. Before we left Mark had asked me if I wanted to spend a day “just you and me?” I thought it would be a great idea since our vacation would be short and it would be nice to spend some time together.

Mark suggested we visit the Glass House which is a tourist attraction in Creston where we had visited on our first trip to Creston during the summer we started dating.

On Tuesday August 9th we got up and went to the gym for a quick workout and came home and had breakfast with Cecile. Mark and his Mum played a game of crib and I napped…

It was a slightly overcast day which is rare for Creston so Mark packed up some firewood so we could go to the beach and have a fire.

We headed out for the Glass House and a nice date day. We walked around the site and Mark kept taking pictures… which is somewhat out of character for him. He seemed kinda fidgety and at one point said “I need a snack, do you need a snack, I’m going to go get our snacks.” He went to the car and came back with his backpack; we had some snacks and enjoyed the view.

After our snack we decided we had explored enough and we would head to the beach for a fire. As we were walking out I hear Mark say “Heeeey…” and I turn around to see him on one knee with his hand outstretched and a sparkly ring in his fingers. He asked me to marry him and I said yes!!”

What do you guys do for fun?

Play volleyball, workout, go outside, garden, watch TV/Movie, cook together, talk!

What are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?

Seeing each other at the beginning of the ceremony! GETTING MARRRRIED and celebrating with our friends and family 🙂

Dana & Dylan Engagement Session

Engagement Love in the Park
A Fall Calgary Engagement Session

Fall is such a beautiful time to photograph couples in Calgary! The colours, the light, and just everything about these sessions make me so excited. We were thrilled to meet with Dana & Dylan last August and hear about their Carriage House Inn wedding coming up in just a few days! These two love to laugh and be goofy and are always up to try something new like dance classes (first dance hint??), cooking, or painting.

We loved that they brought their little rescue pup Frankie, who is just the sweetest little pup you’ll ever meet. We hope we’ll be seeing a bit of her on the wedding day!

We just know this day is going to be a day filled with laughter, family, friends, and love. Have a look back at their engagement session

Best Friends Summer Sessions!

Best Friend Summer Sessions #1

I have been meaning to do a session like this for AGES! I take so many photos of Toffee (pretty much everyday – See my instagram…) and I thought it was about time we celebrate our fur friends photo style!

Our mini session event is happening on Tuesday June 27th at Fish Creek Park’s Glenfield Meadows between 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

We will bring the treats for your buddy to make sure they will smile for the camera. This will be a BYOPB (Bring Your Own Poop Bag)

What the session includes
30 Minute Session
2 High Resolution Edited Images
1 – 5×7 (Obvoiusly to put on your desk!)
$125 + 25 per extra pup

(Pay by E-Transfer or we now take credit card!)

Suggested Preparation

  1. Whenever we are getting Toffee ready for a shoot we try and get him to run around for a bit first to get him a little tired so he’ll start listening to us. We strongly recommend taking your pup for a walk or play to tire them out just a little bit before your session starts!
  2. Bring Poop Bags (cause you never know…)
  3. Treats or their favourite toy! (The squeakier the better)
  4. It is important that you are well rested the day of your session. You want you to look your best, and getting enough sleep the night before is a good first step. Allow yourself extra time to perfect your wardrobe, style yourself, and travel. We recommend arriving for your session early and take the opportunity to enjoy a few moments of relaxation before we begin.
  5. It is not necessary to accessorize your session with props and toys unless it has already been discussed as an integral part of your session. We create timeless portraits that are natural, relaxed and pure, and we find that keeping themes simple allows for real moments, expressions and interactions.
  6. We recommend having your hands free throughout the session, and so we prefer to not have you carry extra clothing, a purse, drinks, or anything else. We will recommend that you leave your items at our starting location (most likely in your vehicle) and we can come back half-way through the session to change and freshen up.
  7. We encourage you to embrace whatever mood you feel during your session. Feel free to relax, laugh and have a good time. Portraits are best when you are being yourself. It’s important to remember that just because there is a camera pointing at you, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be looking at the camera. Sometimes the strongest images are created when you are interacting with one another and enjoying a moment as opposed to posing.

    Clothing!

  8. Simplicity is always best, so when in doubt keep in mind that “less is more”.
  9. Avoid patterns and stripes, as they often will conflict with other elements in your portrait.
  10. Avoid logos, as they can be visually distracting.
  11. Neutral colors such as beige, white, black, tan and grey often photograph the best, as they complement skin tones and don’t conflict with common background elements. BUT if your wardrobe is bright and bold DON’T BE AFRAID TO WEAR THIS!
  12. Wear clothing that fits properly. A proper fit that allows you to move and feel comfortable will help you look more confident in your portrait.
  13. Always dress with full length in mind, including shoes and socks in your wardrobe consideration. Shoe styles should be simple and non distracting.
  14. If you wear glasses regularly, you should wear them for your session as we want you to look like you normally do. Don’t worry about shine or glare, as we know how to look for these things and photograph accordingly.
  15. We normally recommend wearing minimal jewellery for your portrait. Jewellery that you wear on a daily basis is fine, but we prefer to not have you accessorize and add extra jewellerly that normally wouldn’t wear. If you do wear jewellery, it should be kept simple and it’s colour should be neutral and non-distracting.
  16. Apply makeup and style your hair as you normally would. Now is not the time to try out a new haircut or a new style of make-up that you aren’t comfortable with.
  17. We recommend against going for a professional tan or intentionally tanning outdoors prior to your session. A fresh tan may look good in person but the camera is more sensitive to skin tones and your natural colour is always more flattering in photographs.

It was so great working with Linda! We had been working together at Novia Mia and she told me she was having a 30th birthday celebration! I couldn’t help but mention the idea and she went for it hands down! We set up the studio like any other cake smash with balloons, a cake from Cake Bake Shoppe, and of course a bottle of champagne. She brought her best friend with her and it became a little party!

Turning a milestone or just want to have a lot of fun?? Send us a message and we’ll get the ball rolling!
