Doggy Cake Smash!

I’ve got your attention don’t I?

Your eyes aren’t deceiving you, yes! We did a photoshoot of 2 adorable pups for their 2nd birthday. These two are special to us because their parents are some of our best friends at K&E Imaging!

Our friend group actually has a group chat where all we do is share videos and pictures of our pets, we actually set a date to celebrate Alderson and Jasper’s birthday and I’m pretty sure we were all so into that! It doesn’t take a crazy event for us to get together and eat cake… Heck, rather than celebrating St. Patrick’s day we celebrated Kurt Russell’s birthday, watched a few of his movies, and ate 2 separate cakes…

But I’m getting off topic! Back to these two crazy pups. This was honestly the quickest I’ve ever seen anything eaten ever… I should have planned better and took a video of this because DANG it was gone in under 5 minutes. But I guess 2 giant dogs nom-ing a cake shouldn’t take that long… Alderson’s mom was nice enough to save some goodies for Toffee because there was no way he was going to be able to get in there even with his Big Dog attitude.

They behaved long enough for us to snap a few shots before the mowing of this cake started, but rather than blab on about it (and good for you for reading all of this) Here is Jasper & Alderson’s 2nd Birthday Cake smash.

Here’s a little more from Keri and Tracy from Moms, For Real

Domestic abuse is a very serious, and secretive topic, and Moms, For Real Tracy & Keri, have some very personal ties to this cause.

Why us?

We are women. We are moms. And, Why Not? We know that Domestic Abuse is a topic no one wants to speak about – and we are dedicated to it’s uncovering in order to bring air and light to help those who need it the VERY MOST:  THE SURVIVORS.

We are pioneers of the “Moms for REAL” movement: a group of people who believe – at the very core of our being – that a strong, healed, supported, and well nourished family will change the world.

We believe that a strong community makes that possible. Giving humans the skills to PROVIDE for themselves while in crisis, is a PRIORITY for us, as systems continue to apparently have some of them falling through cracks.
What is possible when we gather, fortify, and devote ourselves to the celebration of COMMUNITY LIFE?

Family Newborn

Newborn Baby Peyton

Its a wonderful thing when your friends have babies! I definitely made a very loud, very girly sound when Kristin told me she was pregnant. It’s that part of life that a lot of women look forward to, being a mom.

Peyton was only a couple of weeks old when I came over to photograph the cuteness <3 She was the best little baby, only cried a few times, didn’t pee on either of us, made us laugh, sigh, and my poor ovaries cried out!

She already had so much hair that I was surprised she was a brand new baby. You know this little one is going to have beautiful, thick, lucious hair when she grows up, and not to mention she has the cutest little plump lips…

Best Friends Summer Sessions!

Best Friend Summer Sessions #1

I have been meaning to do a session like this for AGES! I take so many photos of Toffee (pretty much everyday – See my instagram…) and I thought it was about time we celebrate our fur friends photo style!

Our mini session event is happening on Tuesday June 27th at Fish Creek Park’s Glenfield Meadows between 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

We will bring the treats for your buddy to make sure they will smile for the camera. This will be a BYOPB (Bring Your Own Poop Bag)

What the session includes
30 Minute Session
2 High Resolution Edited Images
1 – 5×7 (Obvoiusly to put on your desk!)
$125 + 25 per extra pup

(Pay by E-Transfer or we now take credit card!)

Suggested Preparation

  1. Whenever we are getting Toffee ready for a shoot we try and get him to run around for a bit first to get him a little tired so he’ll start listening to us. We strongly recommend taking your pup for a walk or play to tire them out just a little bit before your session starts!
  2. Bring Poop Bags (cause you never know…)
  3. Treats or their favourite toy! (The squeakier the better)
  4. It is important that you are well rested the day of your session. You want you to look your best, and getting enough sleep the night before is a good first step. Allow yourself extra time to perfect your wardrobe, style yourself, and travel. We recommend arriving for your session early and take the opportunity to enjoy a few moments of relaxation before we begin.
  5. It is not necessary to accessorize your session with props and toys unless it has already been discussed as an integral part of your session. We create timeless portraits that are natural, relaxed and pure, and we find that keeping themes simple allows for real moments, expressions and interactions.
  6. We recommend having your hands free throughout the session, and so we prefer to not have you carry extra clothing, a purse, drinks, or anything else. We will recommend that you leave your items at our starting location (most likely in your vehicle) and we can come back half-way through the session to change and freshen up.
  7. We encourage you to embrace whatever mood you feel during your session. Feel free to relax, laugh and have a good time. Portraits are best when you are being yourself. It’s important to remember that just because there is a camera pointing at you, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be looking at the camera. Sometimes the strongest images are created when you are interacting with one another and enjoying a moment as opposed to posing.

    Toffee LOVES sticks

  8. Simplicity is always best, so when in doubt keep in mind that “less is more”.
  9. Avoid patterns and stripes, as they often will conflict with other elements in your portrait.
  10. Avoid logos, as they can be visually distracting.
  11. Neutral colors such as beige, white, black, tan and grey often photograph the best, as they complement skin tones and don’t conflict with common background elements. BUT if your wardrobe is bright and bold DON’T BE AFRAID TO WEAR THIS!
  12. Wear clothing that fits properly. A proper fit that allows you to move and feel comfortable will help you look more confident in your portrait.
  13. Always dress with full length in mind, including shoes and socks in your wardrobe consideration. Shoe styles should be simple and non distracting.
  14. If you wear glasses regularly, you should wear them for your session as we want you to look like you normally do. Don’t worry about shine or glare, as we know how to look for these things and photograph accordingly.
  15. We normally recommend wearing minimal jewellery for your portrait. Jewellery that you wear on a daily basis is fine, but we prefer to not have you accessorize and add extra jewellerly that normally wouldn’t wear. If you do wear jewellery, it should be kept simple and it’s colour should be neutral and non-distracting.
  16. Apply makeup and style your hair as you normally would. Now is not the time to try out a new haircut or a new style of make-up that you aren’t comfortable with.
  17. We recommend against going for a professional tan or intentionally tanning outdoors prior to your session. A fresh tan may look good in person but the camera is more sensitive to skin tones and your natural colour is always more flattering in photographs.

Christmas Home Sessions <3

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and the time for Christmas sessions! We are so blessed to be invited in on the Waites’ family tradition of photographing Mikayla next to their Christmas tree in their home! This family has been so wonderful to us over the last year and meeting them has truly been a treat. Watching Mikayla grow has given me a bit of the baby fever and I can’t wait to start our own family traditions! Anywho, the session was so great, we were a little shy at first, not quite sure what was happening but as soon as she had something to do like play with her stuffed animals, reading a book, getting tickled by Dad, all was right in the world.

She has SO much personality and love, love, loves to play. I can’t wait for her next birthday and to continue to watch her grow up into a beautiful and smart young lady!

Thank you guys for inviting us in and letting us capture your Christmas traditions.

Downtown Calgary Family Session

Fun & Fashionable Downtown Family Session

We have had the great pleasure of meeting and working with so many great people and this family is no different! I have known them throughout the years of being in the Youth Singers of Calgary and it always makes me so happy to photograph anyone in that group!

They have such a beautiful home in downtown Calgary that we just had to start there for their session. Hair and Makeup was done by the wonderful Emilia Art Makeup.

2015 K&E Year In Review

Goodbye 2015…

HOLY SMOKES! Is it really end of the year already? I think I blinked or something. It all seems like a dream, a very busy, love filled, crazy awesome, dream. The last year has been such an inspiration to us. We have really found who we are as a team and continually have to thank the people who got us here. I am so proud of where K&E Imaging has gone and where we’re about to go. We wanted to share bits and pieces of our life from the last year and some of the highlights we can’t seem to stop talking about.

Along with all the little sessions we did, there were some AMAZING weddings we were so lucky to capture this year. Adam + Jessie, Hadija + Blaine, Cassie + Matt, Brie + Dave, and Selena + Sean. Thank you to all our amazing couples who invited us into their lives and were so welcoming. We feel like family and we are so happy for all of you!

This year felt like a very busy one, not only were our wedding clients getting bigger and better weddings, but we also wanted to say I Do! So… We did!

We Got Married!!

We said “I Do” on August 22nd with all of our family and friends. Thanks to our amazing team of people and vendors who made our dreams come to life. Just to name a few : Blue Devil Golf Course, Dana Cole Photography, Dee Vine Petals, Love Sky Designs, Durand Bridal, Bonnie Inglis, The Bridal Centre, Peoples Jewelry, and of course our bridal party and our parents and grandparents for being our financial support and emotional support through this journey. One of the questions everyone asks us is “how is married life?” and to be honest? Nothing has changed! We’re still the crazy couple that does almost everything together with our pup Toffee and we’re full steam ahead to enjoying our lives together.
There’s only a couple things I would change about our wedding day is to make it longer… Jeesh, they aren’t kidding when they say it flies by. To hire a videographer to capture our awesome slideshow musical number. And I’d hug everyone a little tighter and a little longer.

We’ve Been Published!

Oh yeah! Just a few weeks ago we headed out to the launch of Luxe by Calgary Bride at Hotel Arts. It was an amazing night for our industry. So many amazing photo shoots came together to make this magazine what it is. If you haven’t gotten your copy be sure to head out to any location that sells Magazines 🙂
Our shoot in particular was really quite interesting. Dana Heald from Dee Vine Petals talked with us about doing a Frozen Flower wedding inspiration shoot. We wanted to make things look cold and icy in a location that was warm and summery… We chose the conservatory inside the Calgary Zoo… Definitely warm and summer in there. We had the ice centerpiece up there for a couple hours and it had soaked through the table cloths!! Brides probably not the best idea for your hot summer wedding… haha! Everything else smoothly fell into place with Boutiq Weddings & Events at our sides. She perfectly laid out the table setting and truly truly made it beautiful. To top everything off we had stunning stationary from our good friend Kelly at Love Sky Design (If you’re planning an event and need escort cards, menus, invitations, and anything else you can think of you NEED to see this girl)
Anywho! Go get your copy! RIGHT NOW! or after you’re done reading this blog post.

What Else Happened?

I honestly didn’t expect to write this much in this blog post… If you’ve gotten this far good for you! and you deserve a cookie.
Other than all our amazing sessions, weddings, etc… We had some fun of our own. I did the whole bridal shower thing in my moms backyard, we had a stag and doe for our bachelor and bachelorette party (we’re not really party people) we hit over 100,000 K on my car, did some voice acting for video games, attended an awesome wedding summit, and made so many more new friends. We also shipped of to Mexico for a mini honey moon (our 2nd honeymoon is in April so I pre-apologize for the inconvenience anyone…) Los Cabos Mexico was incredible. It was blistering hot, the hotel was practically empty, we’ve never done an all inclusive before, and I don’t think I’ve ever eaten that much in my life…

Other than that I will leave these photos to tell more of the stories 🙂 I hope you enjoy

Erika + Joe Baby Announcement!

Baby Announcement + 3rd Year Anniversary

After meeting Erika + Joe just last year we knew right away that we were going to be friends! These two are so incredibly interesting and always bring something new to us to do for their photoshoots. We were absolutely tickled pink when they asked us to do another anniversary shoot. Then she dropped the bomb of HAVING A BABY! I couldn’t be happier for the two of them on such an amazing journey. I have loved getting updates about the baby’s growth and ideas for names. I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing this baby will be, he or she has the most amazing loving parents.

Hooey, ok enough of the mushy stuff I think I have something in my eye… The idea for the shoot was all Erika, first location was a farm in Cochrane with all of their dogs! I know from experience that one dog is enough to handle for photos but three dogs! Thankfully these guys were incredibly well behaved and my favourite call back for one of them is “Skywalker” haha! After playing around with the dogs we had the chance to hang out with some pretty awesome horses, they were incredibly tame and very funny to work with 🙂 I can’t wait to do something like that again! We took a short break and headed to Cobb’s Corn Maze just off of 16th Avenue. Although it was pretty chilly that day we didn’t think it would be cold enough to close down a fun park… Sadly we had to re-plan the pumpkin picking for another day.

Round 2! We headed to the Corn Maze again a couple weeks later and had an absolute blast! They picked their plumpy pumpkins and picked out the guts and did some carving! It was really adorable watching these two make designs and carve them out. Next it was time to get a little lost. I have never been in a corn maze and can honestly get lost pretty quickly… There’s no google map to get me out of there… It was so much fun playing in the corn and it turned into some amazing shots.

I was so excited to see their baby announcement the other day and I’m so happy I can finally share more of the photos here on K&E Imaging. Can’t wait to meet the little peanut Erika + Joe!

Another big thank you to Emilia Art Makeup for doing an amazing job

Twins First Birthday Cake Smash!

Twins First Birthday Cake Smash!

*giggle giggle* *Smush* were the sounds made at the cute photoshoot for our friend’s twins first birthday. Their costumes were perfect, the cakes were beautiful, and it was all put together by their oh so caring mother Karma. These two cuties sat down infront of there cakes and, at first, were very confused as anyone would be if Mom put down a cake infront of you at 10 am in the morning. Soon they got over the fear of the icing treats and dug right in!

It was so great capturing the twins, watching them enjoy the cakes and like brothers and sisters do, share each others cakes. Thank you to Karma for choosing us as their photographers for such a special moment and creating a great environment for us to come in and set up a mini studio just for them!
