Chelsea & Christian’s Calgary Wedding

Chelsea & Christian’s Calgary Wedding

I can’t help falling in love with these two

I can’t express my love of these two enough! Their October wedding was something that was made for them and their family and friends. I love it when that is the main goal of a couple getting married is how they can interact and be with the people they love most.

  • What was your most anticipated part of the day
Christian – Seeing Chelsea walk down the isle. Any anxieties or worries disappeared as soon as I saw her coming towards me, and I knew nothing could go wrong as long as I had her with me. Chelsea – Christian is my person. I was most excited to have my person with me on the biggest day of our lives. I was so nervous and excited but the second we made eye contact at the front, he took my hand and smiled. My person was there and all was right.
  • Did anything unexpected happen? What was the outcome?
Chelsea – I went into this wedding with the mindset that you have to go with the flow, or otherwise, you would be too stressed out to enjoy the day. If anything unexpected did happen, I honestly didn’t really notice because I was enjoying the day with my new husband and our whole family there. Christian – I can’t recall any specifics, but if anything unexpected that did happen was just a plus to an amazing day. It was a welcome addition and a pleasant surprise.
  • What ended up being your favourite part of the day?
Chelsea – Besides the ceremony (of course), taking pictures with the wedding party. It was a time for us to goof off after the anticipation of the day. Christian – The ceremony was my favourite by far. Mostly due to the fact that Chelsea and I felt like we were the only ones in the room.
  • In your own words describe how you felt during the most special moments of the day. IE: Getting ready, during the ceremony, right before you said “I do”
Chelsea – Butterflies.. always. But I couldn’t stop smiling as I was way too excited. It was me and the love of my life, and nothing else really mattered. Christian – The feeling of getting ready was a pre-game situation. I was in the zone and more focused on my excitement of the upcoming ceremony. Once at the ceremony was just a constant lead-up-drum-roll in my mind. But then once Chelsea and I were together and about to say “I do” it was smooth as silk. I was so calm and at ease. It’s like she and I had done it a million times. It felt right and normal.
  • What was your wedding inspiration?
Chelsea – I think I went with the term “understated elegance”. Simple, beautiful, and of course any bride uses Pinterest as an inspiration. Christian – The wedding of Superheroes.
  • What song did you walk down the aisle to? You are mine
  • What song played for your first dance? Elvis Presley – Can’t help falling in Love. (But most importantly it was sung by a family member)
  • How did you feel at the end of the day?
Chelsea – Very tired, nd couldn’t stop smiling. In all honesty, I was a little sad that the day flew by so quickly. I had so much fun planning the day, and the day was so amazing in itself I wanted to do it all over again.
  • What advice would you give to future couples for their wedding?
Chelsea – Be flexible with your plans, and go with the flow. If not, you would be more stressed out about throwing the “perfect wedding” rather than what the day actually means. Christian – Don’t get caught up with everyone’s input and the hype. You want to respect everyone’s opinions, but at the end of the day, you have to do what is right by both you and your partner.
  • What did you like most about working with us on your wedding day? Honestly, what was there not to like!? You were an absolute blast to work with as you let us show our goofy and quirky sides. You let us be ourselves, and you can really feel the emotions captured in the pictures.

Lee & Carl Married! (Finally)

A love story meant for novels.

I’m not even kidding this is super adorable. I’m recalling their story from memory and I was gushing the whole time during their consultation.

Lee and Carl met each other about 30 years ago. They started dating and went out for a while then Carl did a silly thing (or a stupid thing if you ask him) and he dumped her. They both moved on, each married someone else, and unfortunately (or fortunately in this case) those ended. Some years passed and they were reunited at a party. Started dating again and Carl knew, Lee knew. He asked her to marry him in April with a stunning ring, she, of course, said YES!

They were married on a gorgeous day on June 1st with just a couple of witnesses, Jacqueline Hoare Life Celebrant – Alberta Marriage Commissioner – and us!

Ann & Stevo Winter Wedding

Ann & Stevo’s Chinese Winter Wedding

Even -35 degrees can’t stop a perfect wedding day

You read that right! It was a toe freezing -35 and when you want to get that winter wonderland look, going outside is a must and boy am I glad we did. Photographs in the snow turned out amazing and we made sure we had all the proper gear to keep toes and fingers from freezing. An amazing team brought the whole day together and see their vendors after the jump!

We asked Ann + Stevo to tell us a bit about how they felt on their wedding day:

  • What was your most anticipated part of the day
For both of us it was our vows – we were both excited to share with each other the vows we had written and share in that moment with our loved ones.
  • Did anything unexpected happen? What was the outcome?
One of our photo locations fell through, but Kaela and Elijah were amazing and found gorgeous outdoor locations for us to do our photos!
  • What ended up being your favourite part of the day?
We can’t pick a favourite! Highlights were the beautiful outdoor photos we took, the amazing speeches, toasting the tables, and our friends and family lighting up the dance floor.
  • In your own words describe how you felt during the most special moments of the day. IE: Getting ready, during the ceremony, right before you said “I do”
There were so many moments where it felt like there was just the two of us in the room – it was really special to just know in that moment that we were there for each other.
  • What was your wedding inspiration?
We wanted to follow the traditional Chinese wedding colours – red and gold!
  • What song did you walk down the aisle to?
An instrumental version of “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz.
  • What song played for your first dance?
“Head Over Boots” by Jon Pardi.
  • How did you feel at the end of the day?
Exhausted! But so grateful to everyone who helped make our wedding day as wonderful as we could have imagined.
  • What advice would you give to future couples for their wedding?
Don’t sweat the small stuff and enjoy the day.
  • What did you like most about working with us on your wedding day?
Your positivity and dedication to doing such a wonderful job!

Desiree & Jeremy Wedding

I love you. I know.

Modern + Star Wars + Navy + Glitter
August 26th, 2017

What was your most anticipated part of the day
Desiree – I was most anticipating the ceremony. I was pretty relaxed in the limo on the way to the ceremony and I knew I was ready to take the giant step in life with Jeremy. It was a bit hard leaving Jeremy the night before and knowing I wouldn’t see him again until I was walking down the aisle about to become his wife, which I think also made me anticipate that the most.
Jeremy – The ceremony. I was nervous.

Did anything unexpected happen? What was the outcome?
Desiree – The hair and makeup artists, I thought, we’re going to be doing our hair and makeup on a mobile beauty bar (a bus) and that’s not what happened. We all squeezed into our hotel room which was actually better I think because we were all together the entire time of getting ready, even though it was a bit of a snuggle.
Jeremy – Not all speeches were exactly as we had thought they might go, but you can force people what to say.

What ended up being your favourite part of the day?
Desiree- Ceremony was by far my favourite. It was so emotional and special and moments that I know I will never forget the rest of my life. Having all our guests stand and be a part of the ceremony was so special. My other favourite part was going to do a few photos with Jeremy and I. It was the only part of the day we got to be alone until we headed back to the hotel at the end of the night, and I think it was so important that we got those 20 minutes. Jeremy – Finally being married to Desiree after all the planning and stress that went into the day.

In your own words describe how you felt during the most special moments of the day. IE: Getting ready, during the ceremony, right before you said “I do”
Desiree – Getting ready: I was feeling put off, because the hair and makeup had “changed”, my hair wasn’t how it was in the trial so I was feeling off, however, my girls that I had reminded me that no one but me knew what my trail hair was, and we all got to be together so they calmed me, and the champagne helped too I’m sure. So I started to just get excited but I was also just wanted to get ready so we could go because I wanted to get married haha. The limo ride was good on the way, my bridesmaids kept asking me how I was doing if I was nervous etc and I felt great. I was happy and calm. During the ceremony – the first part of the ceremony was so emotional and amazing, when we were standing on stage though, it was really hot under the lights and it felt like our pastor was talking forever. Once our pastor came on the stage and we started the official parts of the ceremony, it suddenly didn’t feel as hot, and we read our vows and did our ring exchange and it was just a feeling I don’t think you can describe unless you’ve married your best friend. I was so excited to read our vows and make it all official. Excited I guess would be my main word. Jeremy – getting ready – Happy and excited about what was happening glad to be surrounded by my friends and family. Ceremony – Right before the ceremony I was feeling nervous and excited. Right before I do’s and stuff I was feeling nervous and sweaty and anxious for it be done because I didn’t want to feel that way anymore. I was ready to enjoy the day instead of feeling nervous.

What was your wedding inspiration?
\
Desiree & Jeremy – My favourite colour is pink, Jeremy is blue so we went for blush and navy as they look great together and so do we. Also added some gold pieces to give a bit of sparkle because I am pretty girlie and sparkles are awesome. We had some StarWars attributes because we both love Star Wars. So I guess we were our inspiration. We also just wanted everything to be simple, romantic and relaxed and everyone to have a good time and from what we hear, we succeeded.

What song did you walk down the aisle to?
Parents, Jeremy and groomsmen – Your song by Elton John, Bridesmaids – Make you feel my love by Adele and Desiree How long will I love you by Ellie Goulding

What song played during your first dance?
Danny’s song by Loggins and Mesina

How did you feel at the end of the day?
Desiree- Exhausted yet so alert and still excited. I was so tired when I tried to sleep but my brain just kept replaying the moments of the day.
Jeremy – Whirlwind of emotions

What advice would you give to future couples for their wedding?
Desiree – take your time in planning, do as much in advance as you can to eliminate stress right before and know that not every little thing will go exactly to plan, but really, you will be the only one who knows that and it will still be the best day ever.
Jeremy – When the day comes, just go with it, whatever happens, happens; there’s not much you can do about it.

What did you like most about working with us on your wedding day?
You guys are so easy going and fun loving. It was easy and fun and you guys are just so on the ball and knew what we wanted and what we didn’t want. If you hadn’t brought it up, we wouldn’t have done photos just Jeremy and I and that was one of the best parts of the day. You guys just helped to relieve stress from us and we do not know if I can say thank you enough for that. We liked how you were both involved and easy to be around. No awkward moments!

#NerdWedding Erin & Jeff

#NerdWedding Calgary
Disney + Star Wars + Wedding = Best Thing Ever
September 2nd, 2017

This wedding is every Disney Nerd’s dream come true. What I love about Erin & Jeff is that they are not afraid to be who they are and the details in their wedding day were a perfect example of that. Combing details from Disney’s Beauty & The Beast and Star Wars, sound like an odd combination? At first, I thought so too. But you need to see how perfectly they pulled it off after we ask them a few details about their wedding day!

What was your most anticipated part of the day
Jeff – The first look: seeing Erin for the first time all dressed up in her beautiful dress.
Erin – After the I dos: I couldn’t wait to just celebrate with our loved ones as husband and wife (finally!)

Did anything unexpected happen? What was the outcome?
E& J: We had planned to have a kissing game instead of our guests clinking glasses. We had a 20-sided die that if you rolled 11-20, we would kiss (critical hit!), but if you rolled 1-10, you had to kiss someone (critical miss!). Well, our emcee – Jeff’s dad Peter, decided to alter the deal. If a guest rolled 20 – THEY got to kiss one of US. If they rolled a 1 – they had to kiss Peter! One of our groomsmen, Sean, decided to gamble and found himself rolling a critical miss. Just as he went to kiss Jeff’s dad Peter on the cheek, Peter turned and kissed him square on the lips! The entire reception roared with laughter and Sean will never live down the fact that he went to first base with Jeff’s dad.

What ended up being your favourite part of the day?
Jeff: I really enjoyed playing the shoe game and seeing everyone’s reactions to our responses
Erin: The sunset photos! After most of the big stuff was already done, it was just the two of us with Kaela & Elijah, totally overwhelmed with happiness that the day had gone well and we were married!

In your own words describe how you felt during the most special moments of the day. IE: Getting ready, during the ceremony, right before you said “I do”
Jeff: Getting Ready: Excited and confident – I had a great bunch of guys with me and although this was a new experience for me, I was with familiar faces. I was confident in the choices that I had made to be here and I knew everything was going to turn out perfect as the day went on. During the Ceremony: I’m not going to lie, it was really hot. I thought it was great how our pastor incorporated Lord of the Rings into his welcome message! Right before “I do”: Excited to take the next step forward both figuratively in our relationship – and for dinner!

Erin: Getting Ready: I had the best ladies with me, both in our wedding party and our beauty team! The whole getting ready process felt exactly like it looks in the movies – being with your favourite people, feeling awesome, laughing, listening to throwback music. During the Ceremony: A little anxious! It was kind of scary to be in front of so many people for so long, but anytime I felt a little scared, I made a funny face at Jeff and he gave me his “you’re a dork” face and I felt way better. Right before “I do”: Excited that this thing was really happening! We had spent most of the afternoon together doing our photos with the bridal party, but getting ready to say those words made it feel so real.

What was your wedding inspiration?
E & J: Really just looking at our relationship and who we were – rustic chic wasn’t our thing, so we needed something different! We brainstormed the things that make us most happy and we landed on Disneyland! When we found that was just too broad of an idea – we narrowed it down to our favourite parts of Disney – Beauty and the Beast & Star Wars. We wanted the whole wedding to feel just like we do when we go to Disneyland and it just kind of came to life!

What song did you walk down the aisle to?
Erin – Tale as Old as Time, Jeff – Concerning Hobbits

What song played during your first dance?
Once Upon a Dream – Peter & Evynne Hollens

How did you feel at the end of the day?
Jeff: Sad that it was over, happy that it happened! (Erin’s aside: so cliche, Jeffery!)
Erin: TIRED. But also so so so pleased that it went well.

What advice would you give to future couples for their wedding?
Jeff: Maaaaybe consider a destination wedding – it isn’t so expensive! But, it was amazing to have so many people we loved there and you wouldn’t get that with a destination wedding.
Erin: If someone tells you that you can’t possibly make two themes work together, tell them to just watch you! Seriously, skip the perfect Pinterest wedding and make it about you.

What did you like most about working with us on your wedding day?
Jeff: Kaela & Elijah were a lot of fun! They got along so well with everyone in our wedding party and did incredible work.
Erin: Everyone felt so comfortable the whole day with Kaela & Elijah. They were good at being directive to get the right photo, but also skilled at catching candid moments that brought the day to life.

Marlene & Mark – Gold Geometric Calgary Wedding

Marlene & Mark

Calgary Wedding at Al Azhar Shriner Centre

Calgary Wedding season has slowed down a bit for K&E Imaging so now it’s time for me to catch up on posting our awesome clients on our blog! I am super stoked to share Marlene & Mark’s wedding day at the Al Azhar Shriner’s club in beautiful North Calgary. It’s such a treat when the sun is shining for such a wonderful couple. We asked them a few questions about their experience on their wedding day and what they experience with us was like!

What was your most anticipated part of the day?
Mark: Seeing Marlene in her dress for the first time.
Marlene: I was so excited to see Mark for the first time and get through the ceremony and begin the celebration! Also cake….always cake!

Did anything unexpected happen? What was the outcome?
Mark: Family that I didn’t expect to make it managed to come!
Marlene: The whole day went so smoothly and there were no disasters…. that we knew of! It was so perfect!

What ended up being your favourite part of the day?
Mark: The speeches and the dance.
Marlene: The speeches and Marks parents slide show were definite highlights. I also loved at the end of the evening being driven to our hotel by one of Mark’s good longtime friends, he made sure there was nice music playing and was so kind to give us a ride…. since we didn’t have a plan, other than calling a cab! It really topped off the night and made us feel so special! I also loved going over all the moments and memories with Mark and sharing the few pictures we snapped throughout the day. We tried to stay together so we would have all the same memories but there were a few moments we had to catch up on; it was so wonderful to hear his version of the day and relive it through the stories he had!

In your own words describe how you felt during the most special moments of the day. IE: Getting ready, during the ceremony, right before you said “I do”
Mark: Terrible amounts of anticipation during the first reveal and stressing out over my vows. After that everything was a breeze.
Marlene: I loved getting ready with my bridal party at my parents house! I made sure to wake up early and have a coffee alone on the deck before the madness began, it gave me a sense of calm and control (definitely took some deep breaths lol). It was such a special moment for me to reflect on what was to become the best day EVER! I also loved the time Mark and I spent together getting our photos taken, it was really the only time we had alone the whole day and you both (Kaela and Elijah) made us feel so comfortable that it was nice to hug and kiss and just love on each other…. even while pictures were being snapped. I felt so overwhelmed by love and support at the end of the night, the DJ played the last song twice because no one wanted to stop dancing and having fun! Our guests surrounded us and danced around us in a big circle…. it was so incredible and I have never felt so much love! That was AMAZING! The last song was Journey, Don’t Stop Believing and it was the perfect classic sing -a-long feel good song to end the night on!

What was your wedding inspiration?
Mark: I’m going to guess Pinterest…
Marlene: I wanted to keep it simple, modern and elegant and not fuss with too many decor details and knick-knacks. I wanted the day to feel warm and welcoming… and a little bit of Pin-spo.

What song did you walk down the aisle to?
All of Me – John Legend

What song played for your first dance?
Say You Wont Let Go – James Arthur

How did you feel at the end of the day?
Mark: Thankful for all the effort that our friends, family and vendors put into our day.
Marlene: So overwhelmed with love and support and so grateful to all of our family and friends for showing us such kindness and generosity! BEST DAY EVER!

What advice would you give to future couples for their wedding?
Mark: Make an effort to stay together all night. Call a cab early or make sure you have a friend with room in the backseat and a romantic playlist.
Marlene: Hire professionals. Make sure you have a few moments with your spouse alone. Take a moment to step back and just watch the party and all your loved ones having fun- its so cool to see the people you love enjoying themselves! Try and stay together so that you share all the same memories and moments!

What did you like most about working with us on your wedding day?
Mark: I really appreciated that you took time to go over the moments we thought were extra important and ensured they were captured on film. (haha film…)
Marlene: The process leading up to our day put our minds at ease that you would capture the moments we felt were most important. You spent time getting to know us and gathering information on what we wanted. You were also so kind and gracious that being in front of the camera was not awkward and we didn’t feel posed or forced to be anything other than ourselves. All the fun little catch phrases, tricks and tactics you have to get great pictures also made for a really fun time for us and the whole wedding party! Having two “shooters” is also a HUGE plus – that many more chances to capture all the fun!

Alana & Jeff’s “Backyard” Calgary Wedding

Phew! Its about time that I blogged here! 2016 was a whirlwind for us with so many fantastic couples and you’re about to see one of my favourites! We met Alana at one of our 2015 weddings she was the bridesmaid for Brie at their Fish Creek Park wedding in September. You may have seen their super adorable engagement session posted on Calgary Bride’s blog or if you were one of the lucky ones to attend the gift opening they got an amazing painting of one of our images!

Anyways I’m getting ahead of myself! Back to the day of the wedding! It was absolutely stunning that day, the sun poked out after it had been raining the whole week and warning for rain in Calgary too! The moment I walked into the girls place they were all completely ready just sitting on the couch, they were fast to get ready! it just means more time for giggling and champagne! It was an emotional morning as old friends helped new friends get ready. My absolute favourite part of the morning was watching Alana get into her wedding dress, or I should say her mothers wedding dress. Alana wore her mothers original dress from her wedding over 30 years ago. How incredibly romantic is that!! It fit her like a glove and she looked absolutely stunning. I’m definitely emotional and when the girls starting tearing up so did I!! It was so beautiful watching everyone hug and cry and kiss <3

The day quickly continued to the first look. IF you’re considering doing a first look, definitely go through here and feel the intimacy from these two as they see eachother for the first time in their wedding attire. Jeff is absolutely full of emotions and it was great to watch him watch Alana walk towards him and you could feel the excitement coming off the two of them. Again, I was crying behind the lens while capturing these moments.

Their reception was absolutely stunning. They wanted to have a nighttime backyard wedding feel with lanterns and lights going across the room. They sure pulled it off! The whole room was decorated with photos and memories of Alana & Jeff’s life together so far as well as artwork by Jeff. The ceremony was amazing and brought many a tear to everyone. Once the kiss of man and wife happened everyone toasted with a glass of champagne!

Going through these photos again really excites me for more 2017 weddings! We still have dates available!

Marnie & Frank’s Wedding Celebration!

Marnie & Frank’s On Stage Wedding

Marnie & Frank’s wedding is most definitely our most memorable wedding of 2016. Calgary weather of course decided to be against us and was calling for 30-40mm of rain… Luckily they had a perfectly planned wedding inside of the Martha Cohen Theater part of Theater Projects in the heart of Downtown Calgary. If there’s one thing we absolutely know about Marnie & Frank is that they don’t let anything get them down. You can ask anyone who knows them is that they are always smiling, always willing to give a helping hand and will make you smile through whatever you are going through. They are the kindest people we know and are now very, very lucky to also call them friends!

The wedding day itself was filled with big smiles, happy tears, champagne, and I believe there was rum in the boy’s flasks? Their first look happened at the foot of the iconic staircase in the Fairmont Palliser Hotel lobby. Marnie gracefully met up with Frank and there was nothing but ear to ear smiling from both of them then promptly showing off attire like Marnie’s beautiful gown and Frank’s rubber duckie socks.

We continued to doing the formal part of the photography day and man, this is one gorgeous looking group. There is not a bad photo of any of them. They killed it when we asked for a Vanity Faire look. The boys were so incredibly debonair while the girls gave all the sass they had! I loved every moment of their formal session! These folks make our job look so easy.

When it came time to head towards the ceremony we took an adventure through the +15 walkways to Alberta Theater Projects where we had a chance to view the ceremony space for the first time all beautiful decorated with the Chuppah custom designed for the Bride and Groom. It almost had us in tears. We were so thrilled that this would be the space that Marnie and Frank would continue their lives as Husband and Wife.

After the I Do’s had been said, the glass broken, and the recessional it was time to PARTY!!!! We all headed back to the Fairmont Palliser in their ballroom to get some grub, a lot of wonderful heartfelt speeches, and so many wonderful family blessings. It was time for the Hurrah. We have honestly never experience such a wildly awesome tradition and with so many people. It was a fantastic mess of people who knew what was going on and other people who were experiencing it for the first time. I’m a bit of a safety freak and being thrown up in chairs had me gripping the camera harder than usual hoping one of them wouldn’t go flying out of it. Turns out everyone had a good handle on those chairs haha!

Once the room was nice and warm the Mocking Shadows came on and totally blew my mind. The quality and energy of this band is absolutely amazing and I would strongly recommend them to anyone!!

We had such an amazing time celebrating and capturing Marnie & Franks wedding day and we wish them a lifetime of happiness.

Lisa & James Wedding On Ice!

Taking “On Ice” To A New Level

If you live in Calgary, you know that hockey is an incredibly precious game for most people. In 2004 our city became friends, brothers, and sisters, when the Calgary Flames made it to the final round of the NHL Playoffs. You couldn’t walk down the “Red Mile” without getting a hoot and a holler GO FLAMES! or even a giant hug from the guy next to you when the Flames scored a goal.

Hockey brings people together and its a beautiful thing. This is also true for newlyweds Lisa & James. They were married at center ice in the Winsport arena at COP. On Skates. Yes, when you ask what brand of shoe the bride wore on her wedding day you can put down “Easton.” They created a center isle right on the red line, the bride, holding hands with her mom and dad skated down to meet her soon to be husband. There wasn’t a dry eye during the ceremony lead by one of our favorite officiants Rork Hilford. Once they made it clear that they would still love each other even if the other was a better hockey player and my favorite part “You  may now kiss the bride!” They did something truly unique. A victory lap as husband and wife! What a better way to ring in a new chapter in life! (Makes me wish we could have done that.)

But not only did the couple get a chance to go skating, the rink was open to everyone for a free skate with the bride and groom. Receiving line shmeiving line! Just skate up to them and congratulate the newlyweds!

We couldn’t be more thrilled that Lisa and James invited us into their lives for their wedding day. We are excited to share a little sneak peek with you
